CUT WITH THE CHEESE. No, don't cut the cheese. What I mean is don't ask people to look directly into your camera and smile. They'll be self conscious and you will get "cheesy" pictures. Instead, go for something more candid. Tell the story of the day as it unfolds. Photojournalism is all the rage, and YES, you can do it.
ANTICIPATE a good shot. When Uncle Joe is telling a joke, you know (or at least HOPE) people will laugh. So, be ready for the laugh. If there's a ring toss in progress, be prepared for the winning celebration. Just be aware of what's going on around you, and chances are you will get some great pictures that tell a great story.
SHOOT! Not every single shot makes the cut. And I always try to take a really good image. Like all photographers, some of my images fall short of what I am hoping for. But I know I won't get that great photo unless i press the shutter release. So, for heaven's sakes, shoot. Ten years from now you will look back and be really thankful that you have those images. Trust me on that one. :) Take a look at a few of our family get together pics!
Happy 4th of July weekend. Be safe, be thankful, and don't forget to charge your camera batteries.
P.S. Hoping to blog more the last part of the year. Ummmm, that was one of those resolutions that failed to materialize.
